Dr. Upchurch has extensive experience in clinical medicine and business. In 40 years of experience in medicine, he has been a United States Air Force flight surgeon, Federal Aviation Agency aviation medical examiner, board certified otolaryngologist, clinical professor in otolaryngology and adjunct professor in family medicine and internal medicine, faculty member of the core curriculum committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, author of many medical articles and one training textbook. In addition, he practiced Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in a private, 4-man ENT group for 30 years. Business and administrative experience includes chief of aviation medicine for a USAF special operations facility, chief resident of an otolaryngology training program, president of a 4-man ENT group for over 10 years, many hospital staff leadership positions, including chief of surgery, president of local and state medical specialty societies, member of the informatics committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, director of 2 preferred provider organizations, co-founder, chief medical officer, CEO then chairman of AllMeds, a health informatics company. Since 2004, he has concentrated full time on development and implementation of modern health information technology.
Dr. Craven has been the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Computer Systems, Inc. since 1987. He continues to be involved in numerous entrepreneurial pursuits in both domestic and foreign ventures. He has over 39 years of experience in engineering, computer systems development and design, environmental systems analysis and design, planning and management. He established the Oak Ridge division of Science Application International Corporation, an employee owned systems development company that grew to over 500 employees under his leadership. Dr. Craven is also the founder of Integrated Computer Systems, Inc. and has served as the Chairman for over ten years. He is active in local and regional economic development and in international business pursuits. Dr. Craven received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1965, his Master of Science in 1963 and his Bachelors of Science in 1961.
Mr. Rust has been CEO of AllMeds since 1998 and has more than 27 years experience in health care practice and management. Before joining AllMeds, he served for ten years as President and CEO of Preferred Health Partnership, Inc., later known as Cariten Health Care. During his tenure, the company grew from a single product company with yearly revenue of $500,000 and eight employees into a multi-product line, managed care organization with revenues exceeding $325 million and over 700 employees, covering over 700,000 patients in Tennessee. Before joining PHP, Mr. Rust was the Plan Manager for the southern portion of a statewide Arizona provider network for the Equicor Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). While overseeing the operation of the health plan, he successfully expanded the membership to 12,500. Mr. Rust was a practicing pharmacist for seven years before obtaining his Masters in Business and his Masters in Health Administration.
Mrs. Hunt has been President and COO since 1997. She has managed the operations of AllMeds during its complete life-cycle, from a prototype concept to nationwide implementation of complete systems in clinical practices. She has more than 25 years of experience in computer science with expertise in project management, product design, life-cycle management, requirements and design analysis, information engineering methodologies, design and development of data base applications and software conversion. She has managed the design, development, testing and implementation of multiple government and commercial software products. Ms. Hunt has served as a manager, corporate officer, member of the board and secretary of Integrated Computer Systems, Inc. Ms. Hunt previously worked with the Army Corps of Engineers on the design and development of a facility and real property data management system that was fielded at all national and international Army installations. Ms. Hunt received a B.S. degree in Computer Science from East Tennessee State University in 1981.
Mr. Vasko has over 20 years of experience in the design, development, and implementation of database-centered software applications and products. He has been with AllMeds/Integrated Computer Systems since their founding. As Vice President of Product Development for AllMeds, Mr. Vasko has directed both database and user-interface efforts, developing the now-familiar AllMeds outline interface in tandem with AllMeds' founder, D. Thomas Upchurch. His areas of expertise include requirement analysis and design and implementation of software systems, databases, user-interfaces and software development and implementation in the Microsoft Windows environment. As Senior Software Developer, Mr. Vasko has also been responsible for prototyping, proving, and programming several key elements of the AllMeds Electronic Health Record, including the prescription writer, the coding assistant, and AllMeds' proprietary medical informatics content development engine (Medlook). His database work prior to the development of the AllMeds product line included inventory control and reliability in both commercial and military environments, and the design, development, and maintenance of both databases and meta-databases using relational, hierarchical, and inverted key architectures. Mr. Vasko supervised the re-architecturing of the AllMeds product into a full-fledged n-tier design fully incorporating the Microsoft .NET standards into AllMeds EHR.
Dr. Haralson attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He received his MD from the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 1963. He completed his Orthopaedic residency at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis. After two years in the US Army, he opened a practice in Maryville, Tennessee. In 1998 he returned to the University of Tennessee and earned an MBA. In 2004 he moved to Chicago, where he assumed the role of Medical Director of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In November 2009, he left the AAOS to become the medical director of DeRoyal Industries, a manufacturer of orthopaedic devices and to serve on AllMeds’ board of directors.
He has served as Chief of Surgery and as Chief of Staff at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was Chairman of the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and was Treasurer of the AAOS for 3 years. He has served as the President of the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians and of the Clinical Orthopaedic Society
He was the editor of the musculoskeletal section of the 4th edition of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, and served the same role on the 5th edition. He served 4 years on the AMA CPT Editorial Panel. He presently serves on the Executive Committee as the vice-chair of the AMA Physician’s Consortium for Performance Improvement and is the chair of the finance committee of the PCPI. He is the vice-chair of the Surgical Quality Alliance and is the chair of the SQA registry workgroup.
Mr. Joseph has over 15 years experience in the field of law. He currently is Partner on the Corporate Team at Hill, Kertscher and Wharton, LLP in Atlanta, Georgia, where he is responsible for structuring and negotiating financing, mergers and acquisitions of small and mid-sized technology based companies. From 2000 through 2005, Rob was an associate in the Corporate and Technology and Healthcare practice groups of Morris, Manning and Martin, LLP, where he served as primary outside counsel for several small and medium-sized technology companies. He is a graduate of Emory University School of Law and Rhodes College.
Thomas L. Southard has been a member of the AllMeds team since 2003 and currently serves as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Strategy and works in a support capacity to the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) division. He joined AllMeds as a director after a long career in senior banking management in eastern Tennessee. Southard graduated from the University of Tennessee and attended Tennessee Technological University, which was followed by service in the U.S. Army. His post-graduate education includes extensive banking courses at the University of Texas and the University of Georgia. His civic involvement in Oak Ridge includes serving as Chairman/President of the Chamber of Commerce, Breakfast Rotary Club, Oak Ridge Housing Development Corporation, C.A.S.A. Inc. and others.
Karen Zupko is a seasoned senior consultant to physicians with more than 25 years of experience in practice management, marketing, and reimbursement. KarenZupko & Associates has a national client base in broad range of specialties, with a focus on surgeons and subspecialty medicine. Prior to forming her company in 1985, Karen headed up the American Medical Association's Department of Practice Management.
