Quick Facts: EHR Incentives
- The EHR Incentive program has been operating since January 1, 2011. In just over a year, the program has paid over $1.7 BILLION to nearly 250,000 individual participants.
- Medicare professionals are eligible for up to $44,000; Medicaid professionals can earn up to $63,000 over the lifetime of the program.
- Medicare incentive payments began in 2011 & will be paid out over 5 yrs.
- Only professionals who begin participating by October 1, 2012 can recognize maximum Medicare incentives.
- The reporting period for Year 1 is only 90 consecutive days. The reporting period for all subsequent years will be 12 months.
- 75% of Medicare incentives are front-loaded in first 2 years, with only $14k paid in years 3-5.
- To qualify for Federal EHR Incentives, Eligible Professionals must demonstrate Meaningful Use (MU) of certified EHR technology.
